Addictive behavior is needing a substance or habit in order to feel good (cravings).
Chances are you’re using addictive behaviors to avoid feeling past pain (trauma) or current dissatisfaction with your life.
You can use mindfulness to work through cravings without giving into them.
1. When you feel that craving, ask yourself: Where do I feel this craving in my body?
And maybe you feel it in your belly, or maybe you feel it in your chest, or maybe you feel it in your left big toe.
It could be anywhere.

2. Breathe and keep your attention on that sensation.
As you keep your attention on it the sensation will usually change or it’ll move.
Continue to keep your attention on it.
What will happen is the urge will pass as you continue to stay present with that sensation in your body.
One of the primary causes of addictive behaviors is unresolved past pain.
That past pain is trauma stuck in your system.
Release the stuck past pain from your system.
If you can do that, then you won’t need that substance or have it as much in order to cope.

Addictive behaviors replace the chemicals in your brain.
They teach your brain that it doesn’t have to create those chemicals.
Supplements like amino acids or other nutrients can give your brain the building blocks to produce the chemicals it needs to feel good.
In this way, you can retrain our brain to create those chemicals itself.
