Not relaxing means you’re not getting the rest or sleep you want.
You have trouble being present with others because you’re preoccupied with worry.
It’s also tough to have fun because you find your mind elsewhere.
“If you are depressed, you are living in the past.
If you are anxious, you are living in the future.
If you are at peace, you are living in the present.”
–Lao Tzu

What is Anxiety Really?
Anxiety is caused by future thinking.
Your mind leaves the present and goes into the future, worrying about things that happen happened yet.
1. Notice when you’re having future thoughts causing anxiety.
2. Bring yourself back to the present after noticing you’re having future thoughts, by paying attention to any of these three things:
The breath – the sensation going in and out
The bodily sensations
The environment – what you can hear, see, smell, taste, touch
By focusing you can bring yourself back to the present moment and out of future thinking.
When You’re Feeling Anxious
1. Breathe. Notice where you feel the sensation of the anxiety in your body.
Ask yourself: Where do I feel this emotion right now?
You might feel it in your belly or in your chest or in your leg.
It could be anywhere.
2. Keep your attention on it as you continue to breath.
As you keep your attention on is that that sensation will usually move and change.
As you continue to stay present with it, the
feelings that you’re experiencing will often move through your system.
